Project Description:
Construction of a 500kw run of river hydro scheme on the Allt Gleann Casaig above the Glen Finglas Reservoir, Brig O’Turk.
Works Included:
- Excavation of trenches and installation of 3.5km of 560mm Ø HPPE and 500mm Ø Ductile iron pipe
- Breaking our rock and forming foundations for powerhouse
- Formation of concrete slab to accommodate installation of Gilks new compact twin jet pelton turbine
- Erection of steel framed powerhouse.
- Construction of 5m high reinforced concrete main Intake and 5no. secondary intakes
- Installation of reinforced concrete thrust and transition blocks
- Formation of new 2.8km footpath linking existing access track
- Reinstatement of ground following installations
- Due to remote location, we utilised on site concrete batching with all terrain mixers.
- Steep terrain presented a challenge for electro butt fusion welding equipment.
- Comprehensive silt management was critical due to adverse weather conditions.
- Strict planning conditions due to location within Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park involved working closely with SEPA, SNH and the Woodland Trust.
- Working under 4 separate Cars Licences and 6 licences for water abstraction.
